In the first years of school, children are led to think
mathematically about the real world. Skills developed range from number,
space, measurement and data, problem solving, estimation, classification
and reasoning, progressing through accurate calculation, measurement,
order and spacial relations. Later, children cover the five strands in
the CSF - Space, Number, Measurement, Chance and Data and Algebra – with
emphasis given in Year 7 to the number strand. Problem solving is an important
part of activities at all levels.
| A Maths Task Centre is available for higher
year levels. Students in Year 10 are allocated to classes based on
their future needs in Mathematics and on their previous performance.
This structure is designed to ensure that students are studying a
level of Mathematics appropriate to their ability but still keeping
open a range of VCE Mathematics subjects. VCE subjects available are
Maths Methods, General Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Specialist
Mathematics. |
