The Careers Centre is located in B21. Ms Gibbs and Mrs Borg are available to help students with career research and to talk about options for the future.

A designated Careers unit is delivered as part of the Lifeskills programme for Year 10 students. All Year 10 students work with Careers staff and Lifeskills teachers to explore their likes, interests and talents. This awareness of self forms the basis for investigation into an occupation of interest and develops research skills which will prove essential for future and ongoing career planning. The Year 10 Careers Panel is always well received, with current students appreciating the stories and personal experiences relating to subject selection shared by Aitken alumni.

Careers staff work with each Year 10 student to assist in making decisions about programme choice and subject selection for Years 11 & 12.

Year 11 students receive ongoing assistance and support as they progress through their senior school programme. We aim to organise an excursion for Year 11 students to a university/TAFE campus thus experiencing tertiary life and exposure to issues related to transition.

During Year 12, former students return to the College to talk with students about their pathways post Aitken and share personal issues related to transition. All Year 12 students participate in the Tertiary Information Seminar at LaTrobe University. This provides an excellent opportunity for students to experience tertiary life and also talk to representatives from universities and TAFEs at an ‘expo’ style event. Typically Term 3 is very busy with each Year 12 student working individually with a member of the Careers team to plan their pathway beyond Aitken.

All students are encouraged to make full use of the resources provided by regularly visiting the Careers Centre, reviewing the Careers newsletter and discussing future plans. The importance of attendance at Open Days (for which a calendar is provided) cannot be over emphasised.

Senior students are welcome to drop by or to make appointments with a member of the Careers team during a study period, recess and/or lunchtime.
